This page provides some basic information about transport around the Ski-Circus region. If you are an intermediate or advanced skier and not in ski lessons, you will need to catch the local bus to the nearest ski lift “Schonleitenbahn” which is approximately 3km up the valley towards Saalbach. This lift gives access to the whole of the ski area of Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Leogang.
By Bus
There are 3 buses that run from Viehhofen to the Saalbach/Hinterglemm and Zell-am-See ski areas:
The Free Ski Bus takes you up to the Schonleitenbahn, which connects you rest of the resort. The Ski Bus runs from 8:30am to 5:00pm every day during the ski season and passes every 20 mins. If you miss the last bus back from the Scholitenbahn ski lift you can ski back to the apartment into Viehhofen along blue route 68, snow permitting or chose one of the other buses.
The Postbus either takes you all the way up the valley to Saalbach-Hinterglemm centre or in the other direction to Zell-am-See. The Postbus is the local bus and runs all year round, every hour through the day, starting at 6:25am towards Saalbach-Hinterglemm and 6:41am towards Zell-am-See. The last bus to Viehhofen is 7:08pm from Hinterglemm, 7:18pm from Saalbach and 7:15pm from Sell-am-See.
The Nightliner is a late night bus if you fancy a spot of après ski or want to return up the valley to Saalbach-Hinterglemm in the evening. The lightliner only runs once a night Mon-Fri, leaving Viehhofen at 7:38pm and returning at 12:23am from Saalbach centre. The lightliner runs 3 times a night from Viehhofen at the weekend, at 8:27pm, 9:57pm and 1:29am and runs twice from Saalbach centre at 9:25pm and 2:23am.
Please note that there is no direct bus that returns from Leogang to Viehhofen. If you are skiing, make sure you are back on the Saalbach-Hinterglemm side of the mountain before the last lift. If you do miss the last lift, you can use a Postbus, travelling via Saalfelden but you will have to change at least once.
All information is based on the 2010/2011 ski season time tables may vary. Please check locally with the tourist information office located in the centre of the Viehhofen village or at the bus stop, both of which are less than 5 minutes walk from apartment Gretl.
